New West Coast Pirates coaching staff (L-R)- Danny Smith (Strength & Conditioning), Peter Williams (Head Coach), Matt Gowland (Assistant Coach) and Dale Christy (Manager)

The Cash Converters West Coast Pirates are delighted to announce a new coaching staff – headlined by Head Coach Peter Williams.

With 16 years worth of coaching experience at the Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors, Williams will work alongside Matt Gowland (Assistant Coach), Dale Christy (Manager) and Danny Smith (Strength and Conditioning Coach).

The U.K. native, who moved to Perth this year says he is excited about the challenge.

“It’s about developing and putting the right structures into the kids,” Williams said.

“[I want] to get them in the right mentality and in a good environment to make them better people.”

Speaking ahead of the Pirates’ open trials for the 2020 SG Ball season on September 25 and 28, Williams says he intends to implement a strong focus on defence.

“My goal is to compete – as long as we give 100%,” Williams said.

“If we can get a good defensive mentality – the attack will come.”

Williams and the rest of the Pirates coaching staff will be in attendance during the team’s opening trial sessions ahead of the 2020 SG Ball season which gets underway in February.
