The 2019 Cash Converters West Coast Pirates get their SG Ball season underway this weekend.

The Cash Converters West Coast Pirates SG Ball season gets underway this Saturday, with coach Daniel Manning confident a change in competition structure will help his side improve in 2019.

The Pirates will play seven of their eight games at home this season, with just one away trip scheduled for Round Five against the North Sydney Bears.

“The boys are excited they’ve got seven home games and can’t wait to start,” Manning said.

“They love playing at home – the crowd are so loud.”

Despite finishing bottom of the standings with an 0-8 record a year ago, Manning says his team are capable of causing some surprises in 2019.

“Part of our culture is to grow,” he said.

“Hopefully we continue to grow and can keep on moving up.”

In team news, the returning Jaiden Wilkinson will skipper the side, with Brenton Scott, Jackon Hansen-Bond and Billy Judge named as vice-captains.

“Jaiden as captain leads on and off the football field,” Manning said of Wilkinson.

“The vice captains all have one year under their belt and know what to expect and can help the younger guys coming through.”

Manning himself will be assisted by the in-coming Matt Gowland.

The Pirates get their season underway this Saturday 9th February at home against the Canberra Raiders, with Manning under no illusions as to the challenge his side faces.

“Canberra is a good side,” he said.

“They’re going to be a tough side, but I think the boys are ready to rock and roll.”

The game kicks off at 10.30am at Lark Hill Sportsplex in Rockingham.
